Assistant Director
Duarte’s work as an assistant director is rooted in organization, communication, and problem-solving. Across feature films, short films, music videos, and commercial productions, he supports teams through department management, production planning, budget awareness, and the coordination needed for a safe and efficient shoot.
Varying positions as an AD, Duarte has worked across feature and short films, music videos, and international commercial campaigns.
He understands the AD role as the point where creative vision becomes practical reality. His approach is designed to keep productions moving smoothly, reduce friction on set, and protect the space needed for the director and crew to do their best work.
Duarte Pedroso de Lima graduated in Film Editing from Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in 2015.
For over a decade has worked in internationally acclaimed projects, with varying roles in different genres, such as narrative Film, Music Videos, Commercials and TV.
Whatever the role, his work is driven by the same interest: understanding how stories are built, shaped, and ultimately experienced.
Editor
Editing is the foundation of Duarte’s career and one of the main ways he thinks about cinema. In the edit suite, he focuses on timeline management, narrative construction through image, pacing, rhythm, conforming, exporting, and DCDMs — the details that turn raw material into a finished film.
He has worked with filmmakers such as Pedro Costa, Welket Bungué, and Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, bringing a calm, rigorous, and story-driven approach to each project.
For Duarte, editing is where the film is truly written: a space where structure, emotion, and timing come together to reveal the strongest version of the story.
Director
Directing is where his experience comes together.
As a director, Duarte brings together everything he has learned from editing and working on set. His process begins with storyboarding and the construction of a clear visual language, then develops through collaboration with the team, attention to actors, and a constant awareness of rhythm, pacing, and production limits.
He is especially interested in stories that can be told with clarity and restraint, where the visual form supports the emotional core.
With experience shaped by both creative and logistical roles, he directs with a strong sense of structure, a practical eye, and a focus on making each project both achievable and compelling.
